Why does my Dog Sleep with Me?

Your dog will choose to sleep in different places according to the changes in temperature, but most of the time, it may choose to sleep with you!

Why does my Dog Sleep with You?

Dogs sleep in a pile with their siblings from birth until you bring them home. They get a sense of security from sleeping next to each other, which is what they experienced in the womb – warmth and quiet.

Taking them away from their mother and companions is a sad thing, even if you see them playing with their new owners. You still have to remember that they have left their only familiar “family” and are in a new environment.

When it’s time to sleep, the puppy naturally wants to find a warm body to snuggle up to. If it is alone in a cage without a warm companion and the heartbeat of its mother, it will feel only cold and lonely.

If this happens during a critical period in a puppy’s life (8 to 11 weeks old), fear can have destructive and lasting effects, including separation anxiety, barking to get attention, and sensitivity to noise and confinement.

It’s understandable that for first-time dog owners, letting their dogs sleep on the bed with them may be outside their comfort zone. So you can try another method: put the cage next to the bed, lay a comfortable blanket inside, and remove the top, so that you can reach out and comfort it to sleep. Especially when they wake up at night, sometimes they are not really awake, but just looking for a sense of security.

Or you can simply sleep on the floor with your dog until it falls asleep, and then go back to bed!
