Sydney’s Pet-Friendly Beaches for Hiking with Your Dog

For dog lovers, finding a scenic beach where you can embrace nature with your furry friend is a wonderful day out. Today, we’ll list some Sydney beaches that allow dogs.

Around Bayview, the beach area is not very large, but it’s a leash-free beach. During weekends, you can even find a mobile dog grooming station to give your dog a new hairstyle. In addition to this, the surrounding Bayview Dog Park, including The Newport bar across the river, are popular places for everyone to bring their dogs.

  • Flora and Richie Roberts Reserve

Although this protected area is not directly on the beach, the grass is leash-free all year round for your dog to run around. The small pool in the protected area is also a great place for small dogs to swim, and there are also bathroom facilities.

Located west of Taronga Zoo, Sirius Cove Reserve has beautiful scenery, plenty of parking, shaded areas, complete facilities, and the beach is safe for swimming, even for children. It’s perfect for families to picnic and play with their dogs.

The surrounding facilities are complete, and it may be the only beach in Sydney that allows dogs to play and directly faces the vast ocean instead of a bay or harbour. However, leash-free hours are only allowed before 10 am and after 4 pm each day.

Not far from the city centre, the park has large grassy areas and you can meet many dog friends. You can also take a walk along Blackwattle Bay, which is very comfortable.

The beach in this shady protected area is a place where you can run freely, and you can relax under the mottled tree shade. The nearby facilities are complete, with BBQ pits, bathrooms, and a playground. In the nearby Sandy Bay, there is an area where dogs are allowed to be off-leash.

Located in the Royal National Park, you can reach this beach from Cronulla by ferry. The environment is quiet and natural, suitable for family outings. The downside is that leash-free hours are only allowed from May to August.

Kurnell’s peaceful beach is a good place for walks, and the waves are not too big. Your dog can freely play in the water and on the beach between the third and fourth piers in Bonna Point Reserve at any time. However, please keep a close eye on your dog, as dogs are prohibited in other areas.

Rose Bay Foreshore is a delightful area where you can enjoy the ocean breeze. The free playtime is from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Please note that regulations and opening hours may vary, so it’s always a good idea to check the specific rules and restrictions of each park or beach before visiting with your dog.
