Dog-Friendly Beach Park Near Dee Why

My friend lives in Dee Why and has always raved about the dog-friendly beach park nearby, encouraging us to take our dog there when we had the chance.

Last week, since both of us were off work, we decided to check it out. We hit traffic on the way from Olympic Park, taking over an hour, but it only took 45 minutes to return without traffic.

Just put “Flora and Ritchie Roberts Reserve” into your navigation. There’s a long row of 12P parking spots. Parking tickets are required from 7 AM to 7 PM (we think this applies Monday to Friday, but not completely sure!).

Once you park, you can let your dog off-leash right away. You can walk along the coastal path next to the beach, but be aware that some parts of the beach are off-limits for dogs—there are signs indicating where dogs are not allowed.

If you head northwest from the parking lot, you’ll find a lagoon where dogs can swim and play. The water there is shallow and more suitable for dogs, unlike the larger waves at Curl Curl Beach.

After parking, if you walk south along the coast, you’ll come across a coffee truck.

Even though it was a weekday, there were still many dogs around, and they were all friendly. Our dog isn’t as interested in playing with other dogs as he used to be; he mostly just sniffs and moves on. We had to call him back from trying to explore the sand at the bottom.

When we arrived this morning, it was raining, so there was a lot of mud. It turned out to be another day for a big clean-up.

Things we like about this beach:

Easy to find and park, stunning views along the way, plenty of dogs, and no leash required on the coastal path.

Things that we don’t like:

No fencing along the entire route, no fencing connecting to the parking lot, and no fencing on the beach sections where dogs aren’t allowed. It’s not recommended to let dogs off-leash if they aren’t well-trained in recall.
